CEBU, Philippines - At least 10 sacks of black corals were confiscated in the joint operation in Sitio Kilawan, Barangay Tanke, Talisay City yesterday morning.

Based on the police report, two concerned citizens personally appeared at the Talisay City Police Station to inform the police that they saw black corals in an open lot.

Immediately, the police called the attention of the members of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources including Auterlito Cabanban, Albert Simbajon, Johann Tejada and Edgar Gasal.

Barangay officials of Tanke were also called to participate in the operation.

The team positively saw the black corals known to locals as "banawog." Other fashion accessories made of sea shells were also found.

The raiding team failed to arrest any individual during the operation but the lot was reportedly owned by a certain Rodolfo Lora, a resident of the same place.

The seized items were valued at P2,500 and brought to the Talisay City Hall where they will be kept. (FREEMAN)
