CEBU, Philippines - A 49-year-old man was shot dead by a yet unidentified assailant inside a subdivision in Sitio Ibabao, Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City on Wednesday evening.

Veneralio Dumogho was already lifeless when found in an abandoned area inside Deca Homes 3. He sustained gunshot wounds to his forehead, right eye and right side chest, said Police Officer 2 Marven Saraum, homicide investigator at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office.

Emilida, the victim’s wife, told the police that after she and her husband finished eating dinner at 7 p.m., the latter went outside their house to check on his fighting cocks located at the abandoned place nearby.

Moments later, neighbors heard bursts of gunfire.

A certain John Keven Go then informed the victim’s son Khem, 21, that his father was shot.

Khem, who was out of the house for an errand, rushed back to the house and told his mother about his father’s situation. Both then went to the abandoned house where the fighting cocks were located.

Khem and Emilida saw Veneralio on the ground bathed in blood. When police and medical responders from the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation arrived, the victim was already dead.

Police said a deformed fired bullet believed to be coming from a .38 caliber revolver was found at the crime scene.

Police are still conducting a follow-up investigation for the possible arrest of the suspect.  (FREEMAN)
