New Mandaue cop chief to focus on drug woes
CEBU, Philippines - Barely a week since he assumed office as chief of Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO), Senior Superintendent Jonathan Cabal wants to step up their efforts against illegal drugs.
Cabal, in a press conference at Mandaue City Council session hall, told reporters that he instructed his men to implement a “relentless and intensified” campaign against the social menace as one of his standing orders.
“Yun (illegal drugs) ang binibigyan ko ng emphasis,” he said.
Although illegal drug problem in the city is quite bad, Cabal said there are no “big fishes” in the city, only petty pushers and users.
Last week’s raid in Barangay Subangdaku yielded 12 grams of shabu, he shared.
Cabal said he also visited the city’s trial courts to talk to the executive judges about ways to help them “cleanse” Mandaue of illegal drugs.
“We need to intensify operations. I won’t tolerate na maging complacent yung mga tao natin,” he said.
He added that he is pushing for a regular patrolling in different barangays, especially the densely populated areas which are prone to illegal drugs.
He said he will also be tapping the community to become a part in this fight, explaining that addressing the drug problem needs a joint effort from the residents and the police.
Meanwhile, Cabal said he will also continue hunting the killers of laywer Amelie Cañada-Alegre who was shot to death in Barangay Looc last August.
“We have to pursue this case. We have to bring justice to the slain attorney,” he said.
Before Cabal, MCPO was under the watch of officer-in-charge Superintendent Julian Entoma. (FREEMAN)
