Head guard found dead with gunshots

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A head security guard  was found dead with gunshot wounds on his back and head past 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Anami Subdivision in Barangay Tungkil, Minglanilla town.

Renato Montejo Labandero, 49, of Bisda Security Agency, was found dead by a construction laborer in a secluded area inside the subdivision.

Police Officer 1 Lord Cañada, desk officer of Minglanilla Police Station, told The FREEMAN that the police station received a telephone call from Abe Bangelisan, sister of the victim, reporting that her brother had been shot dead.

Based on the initial investigation, the police found out that a certain "Roger" discovered the body of the victim.

Roger then reported the discovery to Mark Anthony Sevilla, security guard, who then informed the immediate family of the victim. It was Bangelisan, however, who called the police for help.

When the police arrived at the crime scene, the victim’s body was found to be already stiff, said Cañada. This made investigators to believe that the crime must have been committed at past 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

When they checked the victim’s body, they found out that he had two gunshot wounds on his back and one on the back of head.

However, the victim was still holding on to his P900 cash, all in P100 bills, and his wallet and his cellular phone were still with him, except for his issued service firearms, a shotgun and a .38 caliber revolver.

Although the body was already stiff, the police still brought him to Minglanilla District Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.

Investigators recovered an empty shell of .45 caliber pistol ammunition at the crime scene.

Cañada said no witnesses so far surfaced but they are still gathering more evidence to determine the motive and identify perpetrator.

Police investigation is headed towards two possible angles. One is that the gunman was aiming for the security guard's service firearms or it could be a case of personal grudge, said Cañada.

Meanwhile, a mangrove plantation caretaker landed in hospital after he was shot by a 21-year-old man whom he had a fight four months ago over an unpaid debt to his relative past 1 a.m. yesterday at Sitio Roverside Dawis Norte, Carmen town.

Deodito Gungob, 41, native of Borbon town, was brought to Cebu Provincial Hospital in Danao City after Richard Sabroso,29, and an unidentified cohort shot him using a shotgun yesterday.

Police Officer 2 Robald Anoche, desk officer of Carmen Polcie Station, said the victim and his family were sleeping inside a nipa hut at the mangrove plantation before the incident.

Gungob was awakened by a loud burst of gunfire and noticed that he was injured in the right portion of his body so he asked his wife to ask for police assistance while the suspects fled.

He was already in a safe condition but the perpetrators eluded arrest.  (FREEMAN)
