House of BJMP worker strafed
CEBU, Philippines – Unidentified assailants sprayed bullets on the house of a female worker at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Tuesday dawn in Barangay San Isidro Talisay City.
Luckily, Senior Jail Officer 1 Genelita Lira Melia, 45, was able to take cover and managed to survive the attack unscathed.
According to Superintendent Germano Mallari, chief of Talisay City police, Melia just came from work when she heard bursts of gunfire while inside her home.
She immediately turned off the lights and took cover behind the concrete wall of their house.
Melia then called for police assistance but responding police officers were not able to collar the suspects.
The gate and the vehicle owned by the victim's friend were hit, said Mallari.
Authorities recovered four empty shells and one slug of a bullet for a .45 caliber firearm.
Mallari said the victim is living with her children while her husband is working abroad.
The police are looking at the possibility of the motive being related to Melia's work, although they are said they are looking at all possible angles.
"Basin og naa'y nasuko sa biktima siguro, basin og siya istrikta pud kaayo. Pero ato pa nang palawman ang imbestigasyon aron masuta gyud ang motibo sa krimen," Mallari said.
He said they are still conducting further investigation to know if there were witnesses who may have recognized the suspects. (FREEMAN)
