Cash reward lobbied for top board passer
CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City government is set to give cash reward to Armand Henzkel Canoy, the 22-year-old resident of the city who ranked first place among successful takers of the November 2015 Civil Engineering Licensure Examinations.
City Councilor Richard Francis Aznar, chairman of the Committee on Education, penned a resolution commending the young native of Barangay Poblacion, Talisay City.
Aznar recommended to allocate P50,000 cash to be given to Canoy “for bringing pride and honor” to the city.
The giving of cash award is based on the ordinance authored by Aznar which recognizes the efforts of Talisay constituents in topping the board and bar examinations.
Talisay residents in the Top 10 list of board passers will be rewarded P50,000 in cash while those in the Top 10 of the bar exams will be given P100,000.
In the recent board, Canoy obtained a rating of 94.80 percent to lead all 3,935 passers. He graduated summa cum laude at the Cebu Institute of Technology-University last March.
After learning of the board results, Canoy told The FREEMAN that he was grateful to have secred the first place because he really worked hard to achieve his goals, one of which is to be part of the topnotchers.
“Dili ma-explain akong kalipay, akong kahago ug effort nagbunga gyud. Salamat sa Ginoo!” he said.
He advised young students that in order to obtain one’s desire, there must be determination, proper training and focus.
“I always train myself to become one of the best. Moapil gyud ko og quiz bowls, different competitions nga nag-involve og mathematics, bahala’g di makadaog basta ma-train lang gyud nako akoang self. Because success can’t be obtained kung magtanga lang ka, dili na magic; dapat haguan gyud na,” Canoy said.
According to Dr. Evangeline Evangelista, CIT-U dean of the College of Engineering and Architecture, Canoy graduated valedictorian at their school and was a consistent dean’s lister.
She said Canoy was also often dubbed as the “King of Engineers” and the only summa cum laude graduate in his batch. (FREEMAN)
