Minglanilla roadwork slowing down traffic

Gabriel Bonjoc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – Minglanilla municipal administrator Concordio Mejias is asking the motorists to be patient and to bear with the traffic congestion in his town.

The road repair project of the Department of Public Works and Highways in the town has been continued, prompting some motorists to express their sentiments through text messages to the municipal government.

Mejias said the project resumed last week to finish off less than a kilometer stretch of road.

He said the project was suspended when the town celebrated its fiesta, as well as to give way for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings in Cebu.

He said not like before they implemented the "dawat-dawat" scheme, the vehicles are now seen moving but slower.

"Pero ang importante nga dili mag-urong ang mga sakyanan (What's important is traffic is not stalled)," Mejias said.

He added that they also made alternative routes.

Motorists from Cebu City could use the Calajoan road and passing through Tungkop while motorists from the southern part of the province may also pass through Tungkop and exit in Calajoan.

Mejias said they implemented the reroute scheme for the vehicles to get away from the road which was repaired.

The municipal official is asking the motorists to be more patient in traversing the road in Minglanilla.

"Para ra man pud ni sa mga motorista nga hamugaway na unya sila nga moagi kay nindot na ang karsada (This is ultimately for the comfort of motorists themselves)," Mejias said.

The project is expected to be done on December 18 but Mejias believes that the road will be finished even before the target date.

For the past few months, motorists had been complaining over the traffic in the town because the DPWH started the road repair on the other lane.

Mejias said the road is being repaired and widened to 18 meters. (FREEMAN)
