Security beefed up in Lapu-Lapu

Christell Fatima M. Tudtud - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – The Lapu-Lapu City police is on heightened alert starting today in preparation for November 1 and 2.

Senior Superintendent Radoc, acting police director, said around 468 policemen, including non-uniform personnel of LCPO, are deployed in the city's  public utility jeepney terminals, seaports, malls and cemeteries as individuals hailing from different provinces start to arrive today.

"Sayo sila nangabot ron for Kalag-kalag. Ato gipabutngan og assistance desks ang mga areas dinhi sa city," Radoc said.

The city is home to two public cemeteries and a private cemetery namely the Lapu-Lapu Catholic Cemetery in Sitio Humay-humay, Barangay Pajo and the municipal cemetery in Sitio Tugas, Barangay Gun-ob and the Mactan Memorial Garden in Barangay Marigondon.

Deadly weapons and alcoholic beverages will not be allowed by the time relatives and families enter the cemeteries, said Radoc.

"Individuals bringing backpacks are subject for inspection upon entering public and private cemeteries. Sound systems are also not allowed," he added.

Mayor Paz Radaza said candle and flower vendors will be designated in an area where they cannot cause obstruction of streets.

"The police and City Traffic Management Systems will be the ones to plan for the vendors' area," she said.

Radoc reminded his men to be attentive in entertaining the public's needs during their hours of duty.

"Ang police dili pwede magbasa og newspaper, dili pwede manigarilyo, dili pwede mag-text. It would be a demerit on their part, " Radoc said.

As a matter of protocol, Radoc said, police personnel will not be allowed to take a leave of absence from their work to ensure maximum security during All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days. (FREEMAN)
