Lapu-Lapu homeowners meet police, CH execs to discuss security measures

Christell Fatima M. Tudtud - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Homeowners from 126 subdivisions in Lapu-Lapu City recently had a dialogue with the City Hall and police officials wherein one of the discussions centered on enforcing strict security in gated subdivisions.

Senior Superintendent Armando Radoc, acting chief of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, said the homeowners should work together as partners to prevent the "social ills and worldly perpetrators."

"Atong tagaan og paglantaw kung unsay weakness sa subdivision and let's try to evaluate security measures," Radoc said.

Lights and closed-circuit television devices should be placed in the vicinity of their houses to help monitor criminals.

"Aron makita ang dagway, di nata maglisod og kiha, di na ta maglisod og dakop," Radoc told the homeowners.

Radaza, on the other hand, agreed with Radoc that CCTV cameras should be placed in subdivisions.

"By installing CCTV cameras in your subdivision you will be able to deter criminals and also allow a more efficient police work should a crime happen," Radaza said.

She added they need to address the concern since the city is growing rapidly.

"We have to do something and take precautionary measures to prevent gruesome acts to happen inside our homes," she added.

Radaza urged the residents to fight against crimes and to stay vigilant by implementing measures inside subdivisions.

"Nagkinahanglan nga kitang tanan magtinabangay sa pag sugpo aning mga tawo nga maoy hinungdan sa mga krimen sa siyudad," Radaza said.

Last September 15, Karen Kaye Montebon, 17, was found dead inside her house in Corinthian's Subdivision in Sitio Suba-Masulog, Barangay  Basak.

The mayor said was  a victim of "gruesome act of criminality."

"Isip usa ka inahan, dili gayod lalim nga mahitabo "to sa atong anak. I will never allow such senseless killing inside a subdivision to happen again," she said. (FREEMAN)
