Mayor Canoy insists he’s still with LP

CEBU, Philippines – Mayor Antonio “Abe” Canoy of San Fernando town denied reports he is now a member of the United Nationalist Alliance of Vice President Jejomar Binay.

Canoy said he is still a member of Liberal Party, and will be running for a congressional seat in the 2016 elections against incumbent Representative Gerald Anthony “Sam-Sam” Gullas of Cebu’s 1st district.

There is no reason at this time why he would move into another party, unless he will not be chosen as the LP’s official candidate for congressman of the district, Canoy said.

Earlier, Gullas stirred the political cauldron when he said he will be the LP candidate due to his closeness to former Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas, and to Cebu Governor Junjun Davide, the LP provincial head.

However, Canoy said he remained loyal to the party, with the belief that the governor knows him well since the day they became LP members during the 2010 polls.

Canoy said if the LP would not choose him as its bet, then he will be moving to another party, even admitting there were other parties who invited him but which he ignored.

The story about his leaving the LP could be a move of his political opponents to ruin his reputation to his party, he said.

Canoy said his son, Vice Mayor Miko Canoy, will be the one to run for mayor in the 2016 elections, but they were still looking for a runningmate.
