No floods in Mandaue despite recent rains

CEBU, Philippines – Despite the heavy downpour in Mandaue City over the past few days, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported that there were no untoward incidents that happened in the city.

According to Felix Suico, chief of MCDRRMO, the rains have not caused the water in the rivers of Mandaue to rise.

The downpour also did not cause much flooding in some identified flood-prone barangays in the city, as the waters immediately receded, said Suico.

"Dili ra man grabe ang baha. Gamay lang kay dali ra man nihubas ang tubig," Suico said.

The MCDRRMO chief also said there were no residents evacuated, particularly those living near the rivers.

However, Suico assured that the personnel of MCDRRMO are on standby at its command center to keep watch for possible incidents.

Suico also said they have advised residents last Friday, especially those living in flood-prone areas and near the rivers, to be alert in case floods or other incidents occur.

"Gi-alerto na ang mga residents sa identified nga flooded areas," Suico said.

Last week, some barangays in Mandaue were affected by floods due to the sudden downpour.

Suico said that the flood in Barangay Banilad last week was chest-deep while the flood in Barangay Tipolo and Barangay Subangdaku was knee-deep.
