Jealousy behind man's 'suicide'

Christell Fatima M. Tudtud - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – Following an argument with his live-in partner, a 34-year-old man apparently hanged himself with the use of a nylon rope inside his house in Deca Homes Subdivision, Barangay Subabasbas, Lapu-Lapu City on Monday evening.

Richard Lavador was found by his housemate Paul Ycong hanging beside the railings of the stairs around 11:45 in the evening.

Ycong untied the rope and tried to revive Lavador before sending him to Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital where the victim was declared dead on arrival.

According to Police Officer 3 Luisito Ernie, homicide investigator at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, the suicide could have been staged at around 10:30 p.m.

Before the incident, Lavador, a native of Danao City, Cebu, reportedly got into an argument with his partner Carmen Caputulan, 32.

Ernie added that because of the disagreement, Lavador decided to sleep downstairs where he committed the alleged suicide.

Police said they found out the cause of the couple's argument was jealousy.
