CEBU, Philippines – Despite his surrender to the police, a 22-year-old man is facing murder charges after being tagged to the death of his neighbor in Purok Villamanga, Barangay Opao, Mandaue City last Friday.

John Bryan Comendador personally turned himself in at the Opao Police Station to inform the police that he had reported killed his neighbor Danilo Quiñal, 43, married and a tricycle driver.

Comendador’s surrender prompted Police Officer 1 Elson Delostrico to visit the area to investigate while other policemen held the suspect at the police station.

During investigation, it was learned that the suspect stabbed the victim several times while the latter was sleeping alone inside his rented house.

At the scene, police recovered the 15-inch kitchen knife which Comendador allegedly used to commit the crime.

Delostrico immediately went back to the police station to effect the arrest and detention of the suspect.

Senior Police Officer 2 John Calamba, desk officer, was able to interview the suspect. According to Calamba, Comendador said he lost his senses, which was why he stabbed Quiñal.

“Mao’y iyang ingon nga wa gyud daw ni sila mag-away sa iyang silingan. Nasudlan ra gyud daw siya og demonyo niadtong tungora busa iyang giluba sa makadaghang higayon iyang silingan hangtod nga namatay ni. Ug midagan dayon siya diri sa amo sa pagpahibawo nga siya nakapatay,” Calamba said.

Accounts from neighbors also revealed that the suspect is drug dependent and works for the barangay to clean drainages.
