CEBU, Philippines – The Mandaue City Police Office is now on heightened alert in observance of the Holy Week.

Police Chief Inspector Jimmy Aguisanda said they are also deploying around 175 police personnel for this week to increase police visibility during the religious observance.

Aguisanda said no personnel have been allowed to take a leave due to the holiday.

As part of their measures to step up security, help desks will be set up at the Cebu North Bus Terminal, Ouano Wharf and Pier 7 to assist people  travelling to their respective provinces.

Aside from these areas, police assistance desks will be also installed in churches and malls in the city.

Patrol personnel with K9 dogs will also be deployed.

Aguisanda encouraged those who will be travelling and those who will be visiting churches not to bring large amounts of money and not wear jewelry to avoid being victimized by robbers.

MCPO's Bantay Lakbay will last until April 5 when the people will be going back to their respective homes after spending their weekend with their families in their provinces.

Aguisanda also advised homeowners not to leave their house unattended because this is the best time for the "akyat-bahay" gang to take advantage of the occasion.

He hopes at least one family member will remain to take charge of the house while other family members go to church.

If the whole family has to travel, Aguisanda said a trusted neighbor should be asked to look after the house while not around.

Traffic enforcers will also be monitoring the streets during these times to avoid congestion and delays.

Aguisanda advised motorists to check their car engines before travelling so avoid malfunctions in roads that may lead to congestion.
