CEBU, Philippines - A fire broke out in one of the cargo ships being drydocked at the Ouano wharf at Barangay Looc in Mandaue City at around 11:45 pm Thursday.

The fire hits M/V Chelsa 3, a cargo ship owned by Titan Shipping, but no damage to property was reported by the authorities.

Senior Fire Officer 2 Nilo Cosido said the fire was controlled 10 minutes after and was declared a fire-out 35 minutes later.

It was learned that the fire started at the forward portside below the deck of the ship where workers were doing some welding.

Cosido said the welding sparks may have hit the waste materials and ignited the fire.  — Flor Z. Perolina/RAE (FREEMAN)
