Truck crushes boy dead
CEBU, Philippines - A 10-year-old garbage boy was crushed dead when he skidded down the side of a moving garbage truck heading to a dumpsite in Barangay Umapad, Mandaue City yesterday morning.
The victim was said to have climbed to the top of the moving truck with plate number SKL 180 and slid his way down to the ground, according to the initial investigation of Police Officer 3 Melvin Leones, traffic division investigator at Mandaue Police Station 1.
Before he skidded down, the garbage boy ran and ascended towards the side of the truck loaded with garbage coming from Barangay Ibabao-Estancia.
It was Rolando Maning, 47, a resident of Barangay Ibabao-Estancia and the driver of the truck, narrated to the police that he was not able to notice that a boy was climbing up while driving the vehicle.
The body of the 10-year-old child was brought to St. Anne Funeral Homes.
Police Officer Leones said though he did not mean to kill the child, Maning will still face charges of wreckless imprudence resulting to homicide. — Christell Fatima M. Tudtud (FREEMAN)
