Talisay abattoir padlocked
CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Mayor Johnny De los Reyes has ordered the temporary closure of the city's modern slaughterhouse.
"Akong gipasira kay gusto nakong mahibaw-an kung pila gyud ang job order na-assign didto ug gusto nako mahibaw-an if naa ba unya tay isweldo nila kay gilaslasan ra ba ang atong budget sa konseho," De los Reyes said.
But De los Reyes said the closure is only temporary and it will resume soon.
There are currently 64 job order personnel assigned at the city's slaughterhouse.
In a separate interview with The Freeman, Vice Mayor Romeo Villarante said the mayor should not blame the council for the closure of the slaughterhouse.
"Nganong kami naman sab iyang basulon? Wala man namo laslasi ang budget sa slaughterhouse. The budget is intact. Nangilad na sab siya sa mga tawo aron kami na pud ang ngil-ad niini," Villarante said.
Under the 2015 approved budget, the slaughterhouse's operation was appropriated P6.6-million and additional of P800,000 for the repair and maintenance.
The facility recently earned a double-A standard from the National Meat Inspection Service.
By obtaining the passing grade, products from the said slaughterhouse can be distributed for consumption all over the country.— Garry B. Lao (FREEMAN)
