PUJ drivers frown upon new routes
CEBU, Philippines - The Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue has called drivers and operators of public utility jeepneys plying the Talamban, Country Mall and Foodland routed to a meeting last Wednesday to inform them of the city's rerouting plan.
The plan to reroute these PUJs came after the city decided to no longer allow tricycles in the city to pass along the national highways, limiting their trips to the city's secondary roads in the barangays.
TEAM director Edwin Ermac told The FREEMAN that during the meeting, they already informed the drivers and operators of the city's plan to forbid the tricycles from plying the national roads.
These PUJs will now be the ones to pick passengers along A.S. Fortuna Street in Barangay Bakilid, Hernan Cortes Street in Barangay Subangdaku and M. L. Quezon Street in Barangay Maguikay leading to Barangay Cabancalan.
Ermac said although the plan was a welcome move for the drivers and operators because it could mean additional income, most of them did not agree on routes to take.
"Wa man sila nagkasabot pag-meeting kun unsang rutaha ilang agian kay ang uban mo-ingon dili na sila modiretso sa merkado kay layo ug puno na sila daan. Busa naka-decide ko nga hatagan sila og chance nga sila maoy mo-come up sa ilang mga ruta ug kun dili sila magkasabot kami na sa TEAM ang mohimo og final route para nila," Ermac said.
The traffic management team of the city is set to meet again this coming February 6 so they can already come up with a new route.
Drivers plying a route to Talamban, Country Mall and Foodland are only the first batch called for a meeting about the proposed rerouting scheme because according to Ermac. There will still be next batches to follow. (FREEMAN)
