Flor Z. Perolina - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – One house was totally burned while another house was partially burned when a seven-year-old child played with candle last Tuesday afternoon at General Aviation road in Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City .

The Lapu-Lapu City Fire Department received the fire alarm at 5:32 p.m. and was able to contain the said fire after two minutes.

SFO2 Agapito Bulotano said the house owned by Oriel  Etcobanes which was totally burned and the house owned by Julito Lindo were both made of light materials.

According to SFO2 Bulotano, they have learned from Lindo who witnessed the incident that before the fire started, one of the children of Etcobanes was on the second floor of their house playing with candle when the incident took place.

It was learned that only the two children were left in their house as both their parents were working.

Since the walling of the house was only made of amakan, the fire was able to spread quickly to the adjacent house of  Lindo.

The estimated cost of damage of the said fire was pegged at P80,000.
