CEBU, Philippines – Barangay Subangdaku has bagged its grand slam award in this year's Search for Most Gender Responsive Barangay in Mandaue City.

The search is a project of the city's Gender and Development Council under the Performance Governance System, recognizing barangays which have shown exemplary performances in terms of gender and development.

Since its launching in 2012, Barangay Subangdaku has already been a consistent winner for the said search because according to barangay captain Ernie Manatad, their barangay already started such programs before the search was launched.

Manatad, who is also the president of the Association of Barangay Councils, received on behalf of the barangay a replica of the prize amounting to P70,000 worth of projects. He also received a plaque and a certificate of recognition during the awarding ceremony at the Mandaue City Hall of Fame.

He attributed their win to the active participation of their women sector, the assistance of their barangay officials and proper documentation.

"I am really grateful that the city recognizes our efforts in giving quality service and more opportunities for women," Manatad said.

He said the prize that they won will be spent for more livelihood projects of the women in their barangay.

Barangay Tabok came second to receive P50,000 worth of projects while Canduman placed third with P30,000.

The two finalists were Barangay Ibabao-Estancia and Barangay Paknaan with P10,000 each as their prize.
