New environmental group eyes massive tree planting
CEBU, Philippines - The Volunteers for Environment in Cebu will conduct massive tree planting in the different towns and cities in Metro Cebu next year.
Dr. Edilberto Alvarado, convenor of the newly formed environmental group said the group has been meeting with members and volunteers coming from the cities of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu and the towns of Cordova, Consolacion, Liloan and Compostela.
Alvarado said his group has already coordinated with the mayors of the different towns in Metro Cebu and owners of private lands who are willing to support the project.
According to Alvarado, Tuburan Mayor Democrito “Aljun” Diamante, President of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Cebu Chapter announced his support to the project.
He said Diamante told him that he believed the need to have a close coordination with the government and private sector in any program and activity related to the protection and pre-servation of environment.
He said former Cebu Customs Collector David “Boy” Odilao who also heads BISDAK group supported the massive tree planting next year.
He said they will also make sure that tree they will be planting will grow.
“Dili lang kay kutob ra kita sa tanom kon dili maningkamot gayud kita nga mutubo gayud ang kahoy.” said Alvarado.
Alvarado who is also the incoming governor of The Fraternal Order of Eagles said they also get the support from their members including the travelers from Masonic societies.
He also announced that massive information and education campaign also included in their projects next year where they will visit different barangays and schools. — Jose P. Sollano/JRS (FREEMAN)
