Rape victim attempts to kill self

CEBU, Philippines -  An 18-year-old rape victim attempted to kill herself inside their house in Barangay Tingub, Mandaue City Thursday.

 Initial investigation of the Mandaue City Police Office said that the woman was immediately rushed by her parents to the hospital where she later confessed that she was raped by a certain Jimmy Pelayo, 41, a tricycle driver and a resident of the same barangay.

 According to Police Officer 2 Janice Mag-asin, Women and Child Protection Desk officer in Mandaue Police Station, the woman said the incident happened after she attended a friend’s party.

 She reportedly went home late in the evening intoxicated and her friends dropped her in the corner of Barangay Labogon where she took a tricycle ride going home.

 The next day, Mag-asin said that the woman woke up in a room naked beside the tricycle driver who was also naked.

 Mag-asin said that the woman said they immediately dressed up and the tricycle driver offered to bring her home.

 According to Mag-asin, the woman said that her private parts were aching since she also had her period.

 The victim reportedly confronted Pelayo but he denied the incident. The incident made her the laughingstock among tricycle drivers in the area.

 This caused the woman’s depression which led her to try to kill herself.

 The police arrested Pelayo and charged him with rape. —ATO (FREEMAN)
