Student, carver stabbed

CEBU, Philippines – A 17-year-old student and a 38-year-old carver were allegedly stabbed at different locations in Barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City.

John Miniel Opegar, an Alternative Learning Systems student and a resident of Sitio Soong 1, was reportedly stabbed by his friend Reynan Aying, 21, around 5:20 in the evening yesterday.

A verbal disagreement ensued between the two, according to Police Officer 3 Jade Querubin of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Homicide Section.

Querubin said before they argued, the two went on a videoke session in the barangay.

Aying reportedly stabbed Opegar with the use of a sharp weapon, hitting his left arm.

The victim was brought to Mactan Doctors' Hospital while the suspect evaded arresting officers of Police Station 2.

Meanwhile, in Sitio Moryo-Moryo, Roman Booc, a resident of Sitio Dapdap, was also allegedly stabbed in his left thigh.

According to Police Officer 3 Lydo Pinos, the victim engaged in a drinking spree with friends when the suspect, Rolando Latoja, also a resident of Sitio Dapdap and a native of  Villareal, Western Samar, suddenly approached him and eventually stabbed him with the use of a bladed weapon.

The victim was rushed to the Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital while the suspect was immediately arrested and detained at the LCPO detention cell.

Envy was reported to be behind the suspect's stabbing of the victim, Pinos said.

Police are separately conducting investigations into the incidents.
