City workers finish disaster training
CEBU, Philippines - About 40 City Hall employees and disaster responders graduated yesterday from a 40-day disaster preparedness training undertaken by Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.
MMDA chair Francis Tolentino, who personally handed the certificates along with Mayor Jonas Cortes during a ceremony held yesterday afternoon at the Department of Education City Division conference hall, said this is part of their advocacy of sharing their resources in helping local government units strengthened their disaster preparedness.
"This is to lessen at the community level the devastating effects of disasters," said Tolentino.
Cortes thanked Tolentino for lending his men in training their responders at no cost to the city.
The training were undertaken in different venues depending on the nature of challenges which include climbing and rappelling at JCentre Mall, at Mandaue Bridge Park, among others.
Fatima Dabon of the city mayor's office, the lone woman-participant described the training as challenging.
"It is truly a learning experience that makes me more resilient," said Dabon. (FREEMAN)
