Talisay dad: Yes to memorial park but demolish crematorium

Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  Talisay City Councilor Aldin Diaz has insisted that the unoperational crematorium building inside the Sanctuarium Memorial Park in Barangay Dumlog should be demolished first before the City Council should approved the development permit project of Greeneye Corporation.

"I have no objection to the proposed construction of Sanctuarium Memorial Park but the building should first be demolished," Diaz told City Councilor Socrates Fernandez, who rendered a favorable committee report for the application for development permit of the sanctuarium.

Diaz, a former barangay councilor in Dumlog, stressed that the owner of the sanctuarium constructed the crematorium building inside their property even without necessary permit obtained by the barangay and the city engineering office.

The memorial park project contains a total area of 9,997 square meters and comprises of 343 garden lots and family estate plots and 1,054 columbary for ash and bone crypts.

In a two-page committee report by Fernandez, the councilor cited the project was already granted a Preliminary Approval and Locational Clearance for subdivision and Development Permit.

Also, the report said the applicant represented by owner Dr. Andrew Quijano already undertook the processing of requirements such as from the clearance from the Department of Health, National Water Resources Council Clearance and National Pollution Control Commission.

Fernandez, in his recommendation, told the management of the sanctuarium that the memorial project must have a sufficient size in order to hold the water flowing within the said project and the development of the area should not destruct or alter the current environment that may cause flooding in the area.

The road construction should also comply with the standard set by the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board. Major road should be eight meters wide and minor road should be 6.5 meters wide while the wastewater treatment facility for final treatment of treated domestic water waste should conform with the standard set forth in DAO No. 35 of PD 948 prior to discharge to the receiving body of water.  (FREEMAN)
