Flor Z. Perolina - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – A man is now languishing in jail after he allegedly stabbed his own younger brother who pacified him during a trouble with a neighbor in Zone Talong, Barangay Paknaan, Mandaue City past 6 p.m. last Sunday.

Police Officer 1 Eutequio Soringa of Basak Police Station identified the suspect as Jovannie Caballes, 35, married, while the victim was his younger brother Bobby Caballes, 34, married. Both are residents of said place.

Soringa said prior to the stabbing, the victim was engaged in a heated argument with a neighbor.

The elder sibling, witnessing the incident, tried to pacify his younger brother and their neighbor because he allegedly knew that his brother was at fault as he was drunk when he started the verbal tussle.

The victim instead got irked that his elder brother tried to intervene and this resulted to a fistfight between the two brothers.

Because the victim continued to keep punching him, the suspect went to their kitchen to get a 12-inch knife and stabbed his younger brother once hitting him in his left shoulder.

The victim was then rushed to the Mandaue City Hospital but was recommended for transfer to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.

The suspect personally surrendered himself to barangay tanods of Paknaan who also turned him over to the Basak police.

The suspect is now presently detained at Basak Police station pending the filing of a physical injury case against him.
