Cop wounded in raid
CEBU, Philippines – A police officer got wounded when the subject of an anti-drug operation open fired at a group of cops Thursday night in Barangay Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City.
Police Senior Inspector Wilbert Parilla, chief of the LCPO Station 3, said the entrapment operation was carried out around 9:30 in the evening.
Police Officer 1 Raul Ruiz Jr. was among those who were chasing Jason Montebon, 41, in a middle of a drug operation when the latter pulled out his gun and fired, hitting the former in the left thigh.
Montebon, however, was subsequently cornered by the rest of the team.
Later, 20 small packs of illegal drugs believed to be shabu and an unlicensed .9mm pistol were confiscated by the elements of Lapu-Lapu City Police Station from Montebon's possession.
Aside from drugs and firearm, two P100 bills that served as marked money were also recovered from Montebon, as well as two live ammunitions and one empty shell of the gun.
PO1 Ruiz, according to Parilla, is currently being treated at Mactan Doctors' Hospital and is in stable condition.
The suspect will be charged with a complaint in relation to Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and illegal possession of firearms.
