Christell Fatima M. Tudtud - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – A man was shot twice by his neighbor in Purok Saging, Barangay Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City last Saturday morning.

Police Officer 3 Lydo Pinos of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office identified the victim as Rowell Capin, 25, who lives in the same barangay with suspect Diony Blanco, 37, who works as a painter.

Initial investigation revealed that another neighbor, Jose Bascones, 37, an advertising supervisor, saw the incident.

Based on the accounts of Bascones, he was having his breakfast early in the morning inside his house when he heard a gunshot outside. He immediately looked out through his window and saw Blanco allegedly shoot the victim for the second time.

The victim was lying on the ground wounded, he said.

Bascones immediately called the police while the suspect fled from the scene, managing to escape from the responding officers of LCPO Station 3.

Capin gained gunshot wounds in the left portion of his body and in his back. He was immediately brought to Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital and was later transferred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

Pinos said two empty shells of .45 caliber pistol and one live ammunition were recovered at the crime scene.

According to Pinos, a misunderstanding between the two is believed to be a motive of the shooting.

Police are now conducting follow-up investigation for the possible arrest of the suspect.
