Naga brgy recipient of DILG's poverty-easing program

CEBU, Philippines – The Millennium Development Goals Family-Based Actions for Children and their Environs in the Slums was formally launched in the City of Naga with the identified 40 selected family beneficiaries.

Mayor Valdemar Chiong said he was pleased that the city has been chosen as one of the LGU-recipients as the program is in line with the city government's aim to improve the quality of life of selected families and their children living in the slums.

The Department of Interior and Local Government-Local Government Academy, the implementing agency, granted P300,000 to the city government of Naga.

In Cebu, only the City of Naga is the recipient of the program.

DILG-LGA forged a partnership with the Department of Education and Korea Electric Power Corporation Philippines for the implementation of the project.

MDG-FACES is a joint program of the city government with the DILG in helping addresses the anti-poverty issues of selected pilot barangays with a minimum financial grant of P300,000 as initial capital for a demo project of its choice.

In Naga, the 40 selected family beneficiaries are from Sitio Seaside, Barangay North Poblacion.

They have already signed a covenant or pledge of commitment marking the official start-up of the Anak (Ang Nagahanong-gasa sa Kabataan) Naga project implementation.

Chiong called for the cooperation and commitment of the beneficiaries to also do their share in whatever projects that they may choose to ensure the success of the program.

In line with the MDG-FACES framework, the Anak Naga Project aims to establish quick response mechanism, implement demonstration projects and install sustainability measures that will address the United Nations-MDG deficit areas such as the environment, food or health.

The city government shall mainstream the project in its local development plans and replicate the best practices and experiences of Sitio Seaside in other villages of the Naga.
