More come to see Danao’s Karansa
CEBU, Philippines – The Karansa Festival in Danao City is attracting more and more visitors, according to city officials.
They said more visitors witnessed the presentations of different contingents, mostly made up of students from different public elementary and high schools in the city.
Danao City Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III said he and his son Vice Mayor Ramon “Red” Durano VI with the members of the City Council and department heads helped one another for the success of the festival.
The Karansa Festival highlighted the city’s annual celebration in honor of Saint Thomas de Villanueva.
Karansa Festival is celebrated every third Sunday of September in honor of the patron saint.
The dance in Karansa Festival is mainly composed of the four basic steps: the kikay, karag, kurug, and kurahay.
The mayor said the Department of Education headed by Division Superintendent Dr. Rosalie Pasaol also played a vital part towards the success of the event, supporting eight contingents from the different schools of the city.
The contingents from Cogon Cruz Elementary School and Ramon M. Durano Sr. Memorial National High School bagged the first prize in the elementary and high school categories, respectively.
Cebu Governor Hilario “Junjun” Davide III imparted to the residents that everyone should pay tribute to the patron for all of the blessings that they have received.
“I- offer nato atong kaugalingon sa tanang grasya ubos sa panalangin ni Santo Tomas de Villanueva,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mayor Durano said the festival is a way of praising the patron for a progressive city.
“Usa ni ka pasidungog sa iyang pagpangama…aron magmalambuon ang Danao,” he said.
The festival success was also made possible with the support of Philippine Councilors League Cebu President Honorable Carmen Remedios “Ivy” Durano-Meca, among other officials.
Aside from Governor Junjun Davide, Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, National President of the Philippine Councilors League Maybelline Fernandez and Board Members Jude Thaddeus Sybico and Miguel Antonio Almendras Magpale were also present in the occasion.
