Workers electrocuted, shot

CEBU, Philippines – A construction worker was electrocuted after pulling off a galvanized gutter Monday afternoon in Barangay Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City.

The casualty, identified as Jonel Presbetero, 30, a native of Sogod town, Cebu, accidentally hit the main electric cable line in East Ampalaya Village of the said barangay.

According to Police Officer 3 John Carlo Jocutan of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Homicide Section, the victim was in a building inside the village together with his brother-in-law Randy Coma, 38, installing a gutter.

While the two were fixing the trench along the roof, the victim pulled off the said gutter, got electrocuted and fell.

After the incident, Coma immediately rushed his brother-in-law to the Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital where the victim was declared dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, a mechanic was shot by a stranger around 4:35 in the afternoon on Monday in Pakpakan Road, Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City.

Police Officer 2 Jersen Alparito of LCPO Homicide Section identified the victim as Jaynard Capili, 30, a resident of Sitio Tongdon in Barangay Basak and a worker at 13 Racing Motor Shop.

Base on the initial investigation, Capili was busy repairing a motorcycle inside the motor shop located along the road when the unidentified suspect appeared from behind and hit him in the head. Capili was hit on his left ear.

The suspect managed to flee from the scene before responding police personnel of LCPO Station 4 arrived while the victim was rushed to Mactan Doctors' Hospital.

An empty shell was recovered from the scene, possibly from a .45 cal. pistol.
