Jose P. Sollano - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The success of the visit made by the municipal officials of Compostela to the different places in Bulacan province to observe the production of queseo will guide them in helping their local farmers.

Compostela Mayor Joel Quiño, Vice Mayor Josephine Abing, members of the municipal council and department heads visited Bulacan province last week.

The visit was part of the municipal government's move to improve queseo production in the town.

"Daghan gayud kayo kita og nakat-unan sa atong gihimong pagbisita sa probinsya sa Bulacan," said Mayor Quiño.

Although there are other areas in Bulacan that apply the same method adopted by the farmers in Compostela town, Mayor Quiño said other areas also adopted new method in queseo production.

Queseo means "cheese."

Aside from learning insights in queseo production, the visit was also aimed at establishing good relationship with the province and to help improve its local tourism.

Earlier, the  Department of Tourism-7 has supported Compostela's queseo production as a means of livelihood for farmers and its Queseo Festival as a way of promoting the town's tourism.

DOT-7 has turned over an initial amount of P425,000 to the town in order to boost the town's tourism efforts but a total of P850,000 aid has been pledged by DOT for the town for this purpose.

The municipal government in turn has allocated P150,000 as counterpart share for the program.

Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III and Vice Governor Agnes Magpale assured their support to the municipal officials of Compostela in their plan to improve the production of queseo.  (FREEMAN)
