Helper accuses master of rape

Christell Fatima M. Tudtud - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  A 17-year-old house helper accused her master of raping her Tuesday morning in his house in Sitio Sudtunggan, Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City.

The suspect, a father of three, was identified as Rolando Abasolo, 48, a facilities and maintenance engineer of a company in Mactan Export Processing Zone 1 while the victim (name withheld by this paper) is a native of Guihulngan, Negros Oriental who started working for the family in April.

Police Officer 2 Marites Alsola of Women and Children's Protection Desk in Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Station 4 said the young house helper went to their office around 12 noon all by herself to seek help, claiming she was raped by her employer that morning.

The minor narrated that Abasolo attempted to rape her last August 18 but failed because she was able to run away. She said it was Tuesday morning when the suspect's wife and children were not around the house that Abasolo once again attempted to run his fingers through her private part.

She said she was not able to escape this time as she was gripped by Abasolo who succeeded in raping her.

The police have arrested the suspect while the victim will be turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development. The girl already underwent physical examination in a pink room and as of the moment, the police are still waiting for the results.

The suspect, who is now detained in Lapu-Lapu City detention cell, denied the accusations but Alsola said that they will file a complaint in violation of Republic Act 7610 or Special Protection against Child Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act against him.  (FREEMAN)
