CEBU, Philippines - With the inauguration of Lapu-Lapu City College's new building, parents and students in the city are assured of continued access to quality and affordable education, city administrator Teodolo Ybañez said.

The inauguration of the new building of the city college in Sitio Carajay, Barangay Gun-ob happened last Tuesday morning.

According to the administrator, Oponganons will no longer have to enroll in distant schools and incur more transportation costs such as riding a public utility vehicle or a ferry boat. He said this will encourage more savings on the part of the parents.

The Lapu-Lapu City College building currently houses 15 classrooms and is occupied by over 550 students who are taking up Education courses with majors in Filipino, English and Music, Arts Physical Education and Health.

Ybañez added that the initial phase of the project was supported by the former congressman Arturo "Boy" Radaza.

The city government funded the construction of the building in the amount of P14 million. Construction of the second phase started in 2013.

Ybañez said the city is taking a big leap forward as a city through giving quality education, grassroots sports development, tourism, good roads and basic services, such as job opportunities and livelihood programs.  (FREEMAN)
