On plaza development, Compostela municipal, church officials lauded

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu fifth district Representative Joseph Ace Durano lauded the municipal and church officials in Compostela town for helping develop a vacant lot in the town into a plaza called Plaza de Compostela.

Durano was invited during the ground-breaking ceremony of the proposed development located in a lot owned by Saint James de Apostle Parish. The vacant lot at the back of the municipal hall of Compostela is owned by the church.

Durano said the initiative by the town officials headed by Mayor Joel Quiño and Saint James de Apostle  Parish Priest Reverend Father Scipio Deligero was laudable and showed the good partnership between the government and the church.

Durano promised to help raise funds to finance the development of the plaza after he was informed that the Phase I of the project needs more than P10 million.

 Quiño and other town officials asked Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma to allow them to use the lot.

Palma approved the request but the project is a joint undertaking of the town and the church.

Durano appealed to the residents of Compostela and those living abroad to "share their blessings" for the realization of the project.

Cebu Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, who was also present during the ceremony, also assured her support to the project.

Magpale said Compostela needs  place where the people can assemble themselves, especially during Sundays.

Vice Mayor Josephine Abing said the plan to conceptualize the plaza sprouted during the previous administration of former mayors Antonio Dangoy and James Cabatingan. She said Quiño's administration is now working for its realization.

Councilor Tessa Cang said that the realization of the project is a big accomplishment under Quiño's administration.

Mayor Quiño, for his part, said the realization of the project is a big gift of the people of Compostela. He appealed to the residents of Compostela to help finance the project. — (FREEMAN)
