Cops to hold drive vs drugs, bullying

CEBU, Philippines - Police officers in Talisay City will be visiting elementary and secondary public schools to raise awareness on how some aggressive behaviors of students, especially those engaged in drugs and bullying, could be mitigated.

The campaign is part of their Police Community Relation Month.

According to Superintendent Reycel Carmelo Dayon, the chief of the city police, drugs, bullying and some behaviors are some major problems schools encounter at the present that need the cooperation of law enforcers.

Dayon said their personnel will be going to schools starting Monday after the flag-raising ceremony and they will be delivering talks about the responsibility of students and the harms of using illegal drugs and behaviors towards other students.

The police will first visit Talisay City National High School in Barangay Poblacion.

Dayon said the students are very vulnerable because of their curiosity.

"Dili na lisod ipasabot sa mga bata ang dili maayong epekto sa ginadiling drugas tungod kay makita na kini karon sa palibot," Dayon said.

Adding, Dayon pointed out that students should also be taught about the ill-effects of bullying.

Bullying may come in the form of gossiping, posing threats, pushing, name calling, kicking, teasing, stealing, spreading rumors and intentionally hurting their classmates and schoolmates, Dayon said.

According to experts, bullying is the common word applied to a pattern of behavior whereby one person with a lot of internal anger, resentment and aggression and lacking interpersonal skills chooses to display their aggression on another person.
