Lapu-Lapu deploys buses for public use

Christell Fatima M. Tudtud - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Lapu-Lapu City will deploy today its 10 air-conditioned buses and 19 elf trucks for public use in anticipation for the shortage of public utility vehicles plying the streets today.

As public utility vehicle operators are set to meet with Mayor Michael Rama today, fewer jeepneys are expected to hit their routes.

But Lapu-Lapu city administrator Teodilo Ybañez said the city will deploy government and barangay vehicles for the working public and students in order that they can still reach their destination.

According to Mayor Paz Radaza, the same alternative measure that was used on a recent strike will be applied in today's transport paralysis.

City buses, canter trucks and multicabs will be deployed in strategic places and transportation terminals. Among the authorized areas where the public could take their rides are Basak-Tamiya terminal, General Milling Corporation- Pajo Terminal and Gaisano Terminal 2.

Ybañez will be coordinating with Frank Brazil, the City Traffic Management Systems chief, in controlling the situation, as well as ensuring passengers' safety while taking the government's vehicles.

Ybanez said the vehicles will be available for the public starting 6 o'clock in the morning until 10 in the evening.
