Mandaue extends dumpsite contract
CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City Council agreed to extend the contract between the city and Asian Energy Systems Corporation for a period of seven months.
For the whole period, the city can actually dispose residual wastes at the Consolacion Sanitary Landfill.
The Committee on Laws, chaired by Councilor Nenita Cortes Layese, made the recommendation and was supported by the majority members of the City Council.
"The committee recognizes the need to find an alternative dumpsite where the city of Mandaue can dump residual garbage pending the rehabilitation and the development of the city operated sanitary landfill in Barangay Umapad," the recommendation said.
The contract for a period of seven months covers January 1 to January 31, 2014 and July 1, 2014 to December 31, 2014.
The said period allows the city government of Mandaue to actually dispose its residual wastes at the sanitary landfill in Consolacion town owned and operated by Asian Energy Systems Corporation.
The Mandaue City government entered into contract with Asian Energy Systems Corporation for the use of the sanitary landfill in Consolacion covering a period of eight months from May 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012.
At present the city government of Mandaue is dumping its waste at the Umapad dumpsite since the previous contract was terminated last December 31, 2012.
Due to the heavy volume of garbage last December 2013 and since the city equipment was out of order last January 2014, the city of Mandaue disposed residual waste at sanitary landfill of Consolacion for the whole month of January 2014.
But from February 1, 2014 up to the present, all wastes are disposed at the Umapad dumpsite. (FREEMAN)
