CEBU, Philippines -  Talisay City College’s history takes another major turn in the scheduled resignation of its acting president Dr. Joseph Sol Galleon only one week after he was appointed by the Board of Trustees.

"Honesty pushes me to let you know that I feel not happy staying too long in Talisay City College," said Galleon in his one-page letter addressed to the Board of Trustees through Mayor Johnny De los Reyes, who is the board’s chairman.

Galleon, also the associate dean of Cebu Normal University, tendered his resignation that will take effect June 25.

Commission on Higher Education-7 Regional Director Freddie Bernal temporarily took over the management of TCC last May after the city college was put in the limelight when as there were two personalities claiming to be the legitimate president.

But Bernal stepped down recently after CHED chairperson Patricia Licuanan denied TCC request to let him manage the school. The board then appointed Galleon.

Galleon pointed out, "I don't have peace of mind in Talisay City College, and I feel I cannot survive in there."

Furthermore, Galleon said he has been suffering too much physical, psychological and emotional stresses in handling the affairs of the school.

Galleon also said that his family against serving the city college and that his doctor advised him to take a sick leave.

Galleon said he is currently confined at the hospital until Thursday as he will undergo medical check-up for his liver, kidney and heart.

"My family, especially my 82-year-old mother, has been requesting me to stop going to TCC. She is really apprehensive on my health and security. My wife and son too have been asking me to stop serving TCC," Galleon said.

He added that CNU President Marcelo Lopez advised him to return to his “mother university.”

Galleon also asked the city government and the Commission on Audit officer to clear his name from the requisition on the mono-bloc chairs with arm and other materials needed for the school.

Galleon ended his letter to the BOT saying that "I just could not see myself surviving in TCC."

In a separate interview with The FREEMAN, Mayor De los Reyes quickly accepted Galleon's resignation.

"I accept his resignation," De los Reyes said, adding that he will be conveying the BOT this week to immediately discuss on Galleon’s possible replacement.
