Council OKs use of repaired school bldgs
CEBU, Philippines - Good news to students and teachers in Mandaue City.
The City Council has ratified the contract with contractors undertaking the repair of school buildings in the city damaged by earthquake last year.
Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede said with the ratification of contract signed between Mayor Jonas Cortes and the winning contractors, the school buildings can now be used by the students and teachers.
During the Mandaue City Council session, they ratified the contract for the repair of Tipolo National High School and two-storey school buildings at the Mandaue City Central School with John Arne Construction.
Also ratified were the contract for the repair of Leonard Wood Elementary School in Barangay Jagobiao and another contract for the repair of Bakilid Elementary School undertaken by Clemarc Construction.
Officials of the Department of Education in Mandaue City admitted that the lack of necessary papers issued by the City Engineering Office is the reason why until now they cannot use the classrooms already repaired by the winning contractors.
The City Engineering Office should issue a certificate of occupancy before students and teachers are allowed to use the classrooms.
It can be recalled that a number of school buildings in Mandaue City were damaged because of the earthquake that hit Cebu and Bohol last October 15, last year.
Mayor Cortes ordered the immediate repair of the damaged school buildings. (FREEMAN)
