Anti-littering task force mulled in Talisay
CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Councilors Danilo F. Caballero and Antonio Bacaltos want a special task force to be created to strengthen the enforcement of laws on anti-littering and illegal, indiscriminate and unsanitary disposal of solid wastes in public beach in the city.
"Public beaches in the City of Talisay are still prone to illegal throwing, littering and dumping of waste matters as it is a venue wherein Talisaynon or visitors used to hangout especially holidays and weekend," the councilors said in their resolution No. 2014- 23 - 4, which was approved by the City Council recently.
Caballero and Bacaltos pointed out that despite the enforcement of the 2nd SP ordinance number 2007-03, Comprehensive Waste Management System, there are still violators.
Bacaltos said that if there is a designate appropriate enforcers on public beaches particularly during holidays and weekend, the illegal and unsanitary disposal of solid wastes in public beach in the city will be lessen.
If there request will be approved by Mayor Johnny De los Reyes, there will be an enforcers to issue citation tickets particularly in Barangay Tabunok and Poblacion.
"There is a need to emphasize the aforecited waste management system ordinance in coastal areas to address the worsening situation of our public beaches," the resolution read.
Prior to the full implementation of the ordinance on public beaches, a massive information drive was conducted by Integrated Solid Waste Management Office together with Public Information Office. — (FREEMAN)
