Locals urged to paint own walk lanes

CEBU, Philippines - Lapu-Lapu City Traffic Management System head Frank Brazil is asking local barangays and schools to initiate the painting of  pedestrian lanes.

Pedestrian lanes or crosswalks are designated points of the road which allow the public to safely walk across the flow of vehicular vehicle.

Brazil said the Department of Public Works and Highways is responsible for road works such as pedestrian lanes.

It was reported that pedestrian lanes that are situated near the schools are slowly disappearing. This would lead to confusion on the students and the walking public to which side of the road they will cross.

Asked about the coordination between the CTMS and DPWH, Brazil said, "From time to time, sige man ko og roving. Naa gani koy makit-an ako mismo personally manawag sa DPWH."

He said locals can initially make their pedestrian lanes most at the barangay level.

"Yes, pwede gihapon. Bisan ang mga barangay sila na ang mopintura sa karsada, mangayo lang sila og width and length, may porma na daan," Brazil explained.

He also added that if they want a longer and durable lanes, it should be the government since the production of the crosswalk sign is made of thermoplastic and it is very expensive.

(FREEMAN)
