Student found floating dead
CEBU, Philippines - A college student was found floating dead in the seawater of Sitio Rock Island, Barangay Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City Friday afternoon.
The victim was identified as Jallim Mendez, 17, who is a resident of Sitio Tinago, Barangay Alang-alang, Mandaue City.
Police Officer Allan Pantaleon of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office reported that based on their initial investigation on the incident, Mendez was having a beach reunion with his set of high school friends in Karancho Beach Resort and rented a cottage.
His friends decided to rent a small boat to relish their beach outing more. While on board their boat in the middle of the seawater, they noticed that Mendez was not around. This made the group search for him.
Minutes after, another group of people who were also swimming in the area have discovered the lifeless body of Mendez and immediately called for help.
Mendez’s friends rushed him to the Mactan Doctors Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.
Police authorities subjected the victim’s body to an autopsy to identify real cause of his death. — Christell Fatima M. Tudtud, Correspondent (FREEMAN)
