Logistics firm worker killed in daylight shooting

CEBU, Philippines - An employee of a forwarding company inside at Mactan-Cebu International Airport was shot dead by two unidentified persons while waiting for a ride in Sitio Tigahon, Barangay Bankal, Lapu-Lapu City yesterday morning.

Ritchel Sotsot, 33, maintenance personnel of U-Freight Forwarding Company, sustained gunshot wounds on his head and different parts of his body. He died on the spot.

Initial investigation conducted by the Lapu-Lapu Police homicide investigators disclosed that the victim was waiting the vehicle of the company manager pass by the area in order for him to ride for work.

While standing at the waiting shed, witnesses said two unidentified persons approached the victim and one of them, armed with a handgun, shot him several times.

The assailants fled after the incident.

Responding policemen recovered five empty shells of.45 caliber pistol and one live bullet of the same caliber.

Police are still verifying the motive of the killing.

Meanwhile, Lapu-Lapu Police are hunting a 40-year-old man and his nephew after they were tagged responsible for shooting and wounding a man at a jeepney terminal in Barangay Pajo Monday evening..

The suspects were identified as Anie Monterol, 40, and his nephew Raffy Monterol.

The victim was identified as Arturo Domicillo, 39, of Barangay Pajo.

The victim's live-in partner Norma Tahanlangit said her husband was at the terminal when the suspects arrived and confronted him.

She said a heated argument ensued between her husband and the suspects.

One of the suspects Raffy Monterol allegedly shot the victim with an unknown caliber of firearm.

They fled after the incident while the victim was brought to the hospital.

Still in the same city, a man drowned while looking for seashells on a Sunday afternoon in the seawaters off Barangay Suba-Basbas.

The victim was identified as Fausto Ngujo, 44, a resident of Barangay Suba-Basbas who was suffering from epilepsy.

An initial investigation led by Police Officer Jade Querubin of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, reported as per account of the victim's sister Maria Ngujo, 44, said the brother was out in their house around 2:30 in the afternoon.

He was looking for sea shells and suddenly attacked by his own sickness and eventually sank in the water.

Police authorities are still investigating the reported drowning incident. — (FREEMAN)
