Defiant driver fails to escape

Keizen Danica S. Arnado - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A motorcycle driver who had no helmet, side mirrors and driver's license tried to dodge arrest at a checkpoint but was still arrested anyway.

The suspect was Johnry Tabalin, 21, of Sitio Camansi, Barangay San Roque Mambaling, Cebu City.

At a checkpoint led by Police Inspector Alexander Quirant on Sunday evening, police were able to flag down the suspect on a blue motorcycle (ZH-3159) for committing said violations.

The suspect instead eluded arrest but police were able to stop him, although Police Officers 1 Chito Galua and James Myko Labastida sustained injuries from a checkpoint sign that fell as the suspect suddenly scampered away.

Caught in Tabalin's possession was a .38 caliber revolver without serial number with five live ammos inside the chamber.

Tabalin was arrested for disobedience resulting to physical injuries and violation of Illegal Possession of Firearms Act after he failed to present pertinent papers for the firearm. (FREEMAN)
