Fetus found in trash bin of church in Lapu-Lapu

Flor Z. Perolina - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A female fetus believed to be six to seven months old was found in a trash can near the premises of the Birhen sa Regla Church in Barangay Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City yesterday morning.

The said fetus was reportedly thrown by a woman who first prayed inside the church.

Witnesses’ accounts said when she noticed that only a few people were around, she immediately threw the said fetus wrapped in a diaper.

The diaper with the fetus inside was placed inside a white plastic bag before it was thrown.

The woman hurriedly left the place and caught the attention of Mariano Dico, caretaker of the said church. She was said to be acting suspiciously, according to Dico.

When Dico came to check what was thrown inside the trash can, he said he was shocked to see the fetus.

He then immediately informed Fr. Jimmy Duero, the parish priest, who then sought police assistance.

After the incident was reported to the police, the fetus was blessed and was buried at a public cemetery in Barangay Gun-ob. (FREEMAN)
