Firewood-loaded cab gets afire, alarms mob

CEBU, Philippines - Two persons were able to cheat death after their multi-cab loaded with firewood caught fire while travelling along Barangay Poblacion in Cordova town past 10 p.m. on Friday.

Merlyn Baguio and her driver were on board a multi-cab fully loaded with firewood supposed to be brought to their residence in Barangay San Miguel when the incident happened.

While travelling along the highway, they were surprised when they saw a spark near the steering wheel of their multi-cab which prompted them to jump off the vehicle.

Baguio immediately boarded a tricycle and sought help from Cordova Fire Station several meters away.

Senior Fire Officer 3 Mario Randy Cuizon and his team responded to the fire scene and put it off in a couple of minutes.

Based on investigation, it was found out that the cab's wirings experienced a short circuit as the driver heard a zap behind the steering wheel before the cab caught fire.

Baguio and her driver were unhurt but the incident caused alarm to other motorists and residents who witnessed it, also causing traffic along the highway.

The vehicle was partially burned and was saved by the loaded firewood. 

The damage was pegged at P5,000. (FREEMAN)
