Koreans want issues resolved

Jose P. Sollano - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  The association of Koreans in Cebu is closely coordinating with the authorities of Mactan Cebu International Airport, Bureau of Immigration officials and the police to address issues affecting their members, especially on security.

In a press conference, members of Cebu Korean Association Inc., headed by its president Bong Hwan "Charlie" Cho, cited the alleged red tape in government offices, as well as concerns on peace and order, as the most pressing problems faced by their organization.

Cordova Vice Mayor Therese Sitoy-Cho said in order to address the problems, they made representation with concerned agencies.

Sitoy-Cho said her husband met with MCIA executives and different law enforcement agencies, as well as police officials.

The vice mayor of Cordova, who is Bong's wife, said that they are helping Koreans who visit here as tourists, adding that thousands of Cebuanos are employed with different business and industrial establishments owned by Koreans in partnership with Filipino businessmen.

Aside from visiting Cebu as tourists, some Koreans come over here to study the English language, according to Bong.

He pointed out a number of English-Korean schools have been established in Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu and Cebu cities. He further said that Koreans are the top visitors in the country, especially in Cebu.  (FREEMAN)
