Capitol aid sought for 'Landing' fete
CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City Council is asking for financial assistance from the provincial government in support to their celebration of the "Takas sa Talisay, Kagawasan sa Sugbo" or better known as the American Liberation Forces' Landing.
City Councilor Doroteo Emit, chairman of the committee on heritage, tourism and arts, said the city government does not have the resources to shoulder the costs of these activities and even the main event itself. The celebration will take place on March 26.
The council approved the resolution, asking P500,000 from Governor Hilario Davide III and P250,000 each from Board Members Julian Daan and Raul Alcoseba.
Emit said there is a need to upgrade the celebration year after year by adding more activities that would draw more people to the celebration of the historic event.
"The Takas sa Talisay is a province-wide historical celebration that is attended by both local and foreign dignitaries, as well as the ordinary local and foreign tourists," Emit said.
The landing of the American Forces in Talisay during the 2nd World War was a key event that led to the liberation of the entire Province of Cebu from the clutch of the occupying Japanese forces. (FREEMAN)
