Water reservoir to benefit city farmers
CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City government is planning to build a water reservoir that will be used by farmers to irrigate their farms at Sitio Campensa in Barangay Manipis, one of the city's mountain barangays.
The plan cropped up after Mayor Johnny De los Reyes visited the area and saw the flowing water from the source.
According to the mayor, if a water reservoir will be housed in the area, the water will not be wasted as the facility will act as a reserving unit for water that farmers may use in watering their plants.
Aside from putting up a reservoir, the mayor also intends to fix the rough road leading to the area to help in the easy transportation of farmers' produce to the markets.
Over the past years, it has been observed that the road leading to place are muddy, rough and susceptible to landslides during rainy seasons. The means of transportation in Manipis is habal-habal or motorcycle for hire.
Last Monday, the city government has started to level the rough road in the mountain barangay.
Talisay City public information officer Vincie Monterde told The Freeman that the mayor has also planned to asphalt the road in the area.
Still in Talisay City, De los Reyes promised to give legal counsel to barangay tanods in the city who face charges in court in relation to doing their job in their barangays.
Aside from legal assistance, the city government will also give PhilHealth insurance cards that the tanods or their family could use to seek medical attention from the hospital.
The promise of the mayor came after Partylist Rep. Samuel Pagdilao of Anti-Crime and Terrorism thru Community Involvement and Support vowed to give financial assistance to the building of a multi-purpose training center for tanods in Talisay City. (FREEMAN)
